What to Ask a CDL School Before You Enroll

What is the total cost, and is that the full amount or just tuition (are there separate fees for books, licensing, uniforms, or the road test)?

If it's a company-sponsored program, what exactly happens if you leave before finishing your service commitment — is there a prorated payback amount, and is it in writing?

Are there financing options, and if so, what are the actual repayment terms — not just the monthly payment, but the total cost including interest.

How long is the program, and how much of it is actual behind-the-wheel time versus classroom time?

What's the instructor-to-student ratio, especially for behind-the-wheel training — a school where you spend most of your time watching other students drive isn't giving you much practice.

Is the school's curriculum accredited or approved by your state, and does it meet the requirements for the CDL class and endorsements you need?

Does the school have a job placement program, and can they share real placement rate numbers — not just a claim, but something you can verify?

If it's an independent school, are you free to apply to any carrier after graduating, or are there partner-company obligations you should know about upfront?

Pressure to sign or pay before you've had time to review the contract terms.
